[ She won't disagree with him on that, although she finds it far more interesting than it would be disturbing to her.

She nudges him gently with an elbow. ]

Just imagine, Noct, all the designs and NPCs you put into King's Knight... Those could actually be real people in some world out there.

[That makes him exhale a soft huff of laughter.]

That might be even more weird. Like- would they know I made them? Is it just a coincidence? If we met, would I have to fake it and pretend I don't know anything? And then I'd wonder if I was in someone else's video game...

[ She doesn't know the answers to such questions, but she has to stop herself from bursting into a fit of giggles. The point of this is to have a little bit of fun with imagination. ]

Allow me to be the first to congratulate you on your newfound fatherhood of many characters. [ Many. People. They would be real, hypothetically. ]

Most of those NPCs are older than I am. Not sure how I feel about being Junior Dad.

[Perhaps a bit like his own father feels here in town, with an adult son more than half as old as he is.]

[ With the main NPC in their version of King's Knight being a prince in need of rescuing-- ] You could impart all of your princely wisdom! And combat techniques. Who knows, maybe he'll even be able to save himself from dragons in the future.

[THE RESCUED PRINCE IS NOW HIS SON--]

Insidias Lucis Caelum doesn't sound half bad.

[ OH NO NOW SHE HOPES THIS OC OF HIS WILL APPEAR-- ]

We'll welcome him into the family with open arms.

[He makes a thoughtful noise.]

I don't know if I can handle that kind of responsibility. I hear being a dad is a lot of work.

[He never even got to do the marriage part... though maybe he'd best lean away from that part of it, lest this become less jokey of a conversation.]

[ She smiles, keeping the conversation still light. ]

Well, if you don’t end up telling him, [ Hypothetically, anyway, since his character in question isn’t here. ] you could always just be his friend.

[ Not that one cannot be both a father and a friend, but. ]

You’re good at that, you know.

So you keep saying. It's weird... I never used to be.

[In the last year or so - here, and on Eos - he's managed to connect with people in ways he struggled so much with while living in Insomnia. Seems that it really was the crown that always held him back.]

Ah... You were rather shy as a child, come to think of it.

[ A pause. ] But you became friends with Prompto, right? And Ignis!

[carbungle]

I did, yeah. They came to me first though. Or... I guess if you want to be accurate about it, my dad gave me to Ignis, like, "take care of this kid" and he took it super literally.

[iustaegis]

[ She.

She did not know this! ]

He was your babysitter?

[ Also, Ignis barely looks older than him! ]

Not babysitter, exactly. We were both way too young- he's only a couple years older, and at the time I was only 3 or 4. We... had a nanny to keep an eye on us.

[His voice is momentarily quiet at the vague mention - it's been twelve years, but still, childhood trauma's a whole thing - before he regains the steam to continue.]

But you've seen Ignis, he takes his job so seriously. He was like that even as a kid. I don't remember too much from back then, but he spent a lot of time trying to keep me in line.

[ She makes a note to not bring up his nanny. ]

I'm guessing that it worked? Keeping you in line. But I also hope that you taught him how to have fun, too.

[carbungle]

Definitely had our back and forth. Though I have a feeling I got the better end of the deal, since I got my way more often than he did.

[He doesn't sound especially regretful about it. He was a model prince! ...When he had to be.]

If I know Ignis... I doubt that he regretted any moment with you.

[ Like, boi, please. ]

Probably not. [He's not gonna refute that, he knows Ignis well enough.] At least not in retrospect. He'd had plenty to say at the time when I was misbehaving.

Ooh, misbehaving?

[ Aside from how he did a prank with some solider’s shoes? She always thought him to be a model prince! ]

I snuck out a lot. Cooped up in a castle, can you blame me? It was just to the outer gardens, and I always dragged Iggy along. Easier to climb fences with two people, and playing alone is no fun.

[iustaegis]

[ It's a charming tale, and one she enjoys hearing. She's glad he had been able to explore despite his restricted freedom. ]

Sounds like the both of you were already having your own little adventures together.

[carbungle]

Don't have too much experience with it, but I think that's a rule with childhood friends. Getting in and out of trouble.

[Though Ignis usually fell into the category of "fall guy" rather than co-conspirator. It's fortunate that no one could actually fire him except the king, and Noct would never allow it.]

What about you? Or Mythra, I guess. Got any "childhood" adventuring stories?

[Whatever counts for childhood, anyway- when she first woke up, or anything like that.]

[ A good question, and one that causes her to hesitate before answering. ]

Not... many. When Mythra awakened, the war was already underway. [ A little depressing topic, but, she tries to keep it light. ]

But. For as for "adventuring", I suppose you could say we were-- since we traveled to different Titans. It was nice, seeing so much.

I'm a firm believer that you can have plenty of adventures while fighting a war.

[He spent several months doing just that, in fact. It's not easy or always fun, but still.]

You had other friends back then, right?

[The "we" could technically refer to her and Mythra, but she also worked with that Addam guy. He hesitates to use the name, considering how painful it was before, but he's hoping it isn't all bad. Maybe when the memory isn't as visceral as it was that moment.]

[ There were many many sidequests in helping people...

She smiles bittersweetly. ] I'd... like to think that with those we'd traveled with, we were close. Or, um, after a while, we ended up close to each other. [ Some more than others, of course. ]

We didn't do much sneaking into gardens, though. But we fought together. A lot. We made meals and camped together, too. [ Those memories are bittersweet, too. ]
